Today, I am the Birthday Girl!

The big day has arrived. Huzzah!! Herewith, a picture of today’s gift, a friendship ball, suitable for dangling in a window:

Friendship ball

For your chance to win this lovely birthday present from me, leave a comment about friendship. Or maybe how much you LOVE cake and ice cream. Either will do. As ever, if you don’t leave me a way to contact you, commit to checking back here tomorrow May 1, 2009 or thereabouts to see if you won one or more of the Birthday Bash presents.

I have tomorrow off of work and will be working on copy edits for Indiscreet.

    Happy birthday, Carolyn!

And to quote the Beatles, “I get by with a little help from my friends.” Seriously do not know what I’d do without the good friends I’ve made to help me through my crazy days.

Happy Birthday to you! May this be a wonderful year ahead. The older I get the more I value my true friends.

Happy Birthday Carolyn! I hope it’s a wonderful day and a wonderful year ahead of you!

My best friend gave this little saying to me and I’ve never forgot

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

Happy Birthday Carolyn!!! Here’s wishing you health, happiness, and prosperity in the coming year. Enjoy that cake and ice cream or, if you’re like me, a big frozen margarita is even better!!

Happy birthday! May only good things find their way to you.

I think friendship crosses boundaries and continents. I have a friend who I’ve “met” online about 9-10 years ago and she lives in Australia. One of these days (we both live by that mantra in some ways) we’re bound and determined to meet face to face.

She once mentioned to me that talking with me is like meeting a long-time friend for coffee and picking up where we each left off – even though we may not have spoken for years.

We talk, we whinge, and whenever one or the other needs a knock upside the head – the other gives it. Both of us know when the other is feeling down, even if we may not have spoken for a while and each will start prodding the other when that happens til we snap out of it.

I know that, if something happened, she’d be there with bells on, same is true in reverse – even if it took each of us a little while to make it happen in actuality.

When I had a bad set of circumstances a few years back, she’s one of two “friends” who remained true and said, ‘this too will pass’ and it has, as well as slowly improving.

    That, to me, is friendship.

Happy Birthday! I think you have been having a wonderful birthday week. What a fun idea to give away so many nice gifts.

I think I am too late for this gift and that’s okay. (I’m in the eastern time zone and turned my computer off early last night!)

However, I heard a story on the BBC this week about friends and social networking. They talked about people having hundreds of “friends” on facebook, my space, etc., but that each of us only have two or three true friends. That is certainly true for me. Anyway, I hope your birthday was fun and your day off is good, too.

You can’t pick your family, but you can pick your friends, and I am very glad to count you among the latter, Carolyn. Happy Birthday! I could go for some cake and ice cream right now–molten chocolate for the former, coffee chip for the latter. Just the mood I’m in right now.
