Just a Cake Baking Fool

I have decided that after too many years of mediocre cake baking, that I need to rise above it all and become a kick ass baker.

I bought myself The Cake Bible and am working my way through it. I have been making multiple versions of the cakes until I get them perfect. Frosting is my challenge. Today, though was a bit of a success frosting-wise. I have learned that our local butter (Clover brand) is actually a superior butter and that the $35 butter I bought is made from milk that comes from right here in Northern CA. We have happy superior butter cows here.

Today I made a chocolate cake. I feel it was a bit dry, but no one else thought so. I will have to sample it again tomorrow to be sure. And, of course, make the cake again. I have plenty of frosting left to do so.

It’s no coincidence, by the way, that the heroine of The Next Paranormal is a baker.

Writing and Real Life. Sometimes they intersect.

You’re braver than I am – I’m a total disaster in the kitchen and after much practice usually accompanied by smoke, shrill alarms, several slip and falls, and one tinsy tiny fire (that one really wasn’t my fault) – I gave up and married a guy who likes to cook. For cakes, our local grocery has a great bakery :-d

  2. Oh, chocolate cake! I’m still trying to find the perfect recipe as my chocolate cakes typcially end up being too dry or not chocolatey enough (I wish making a fantastic chocolate cake were as easy as making fantastic chocolate icecream!)

Btw, the heroine of my current WIP is good at needlework. 😉

Cybercliper: I once set fire to spaghetti. ‘Nuff said.

Sandy: I suggest you check out The Cake Bible. She gives ingredients in metric too so you should be able to use it. My chocolate cake is standing the test of time. It’s extremely yummy. I need to make it a couple more times, though.

    LOL on the needleworking heroine!

This is completely unrelated to cakes (mmmm…cake…) but very related to paranormals. I’m re-reading Alexandrine & Xia’s book for the third time this year and eyeing the 2011 release date for Durian with great sadness.

    Just so you know. 🙂
