No Rest for the Weary!

I just emailed revisions for My Dangerous Pleasure. Woot!!!!

Now I have to get cracking on The Next Historical. Blogging may be intermittent while I try to NaNoWriMo the book. If you’re participating, buddy me! I’m cjewel and I’m already behind. Except yesterday I wrote 1900 words in the revisions so I may just claim that.

Anyhow, how’s everyone? Whatcha working on, doing that’s interesting etc?

My son and I are going to NYC for a week on Friday. Should be interesting to make word count and do fun stuff, but then I won’t have to be at the day job.

I’m reading a mystery/thriller that I’m not sure I can finish. It’s getting harder and harder to suspend disbelief in re the characters. There’s a female character who is made of so many stereotypes and cliches that I think my brain might explode. I’m fascinated, though, by the number of cliche things she can say, do and think. It’s bad when you can predict action, dialogue and thought for any character. Alas.

I recently read a book that I had a similar feeling about. I was not sure that I could finish the book and 2/3 ways through it, the author decided to wipe out a very secondary character and I felt greatly offended because that far into the book, it was the ONLY character that I had liked. I found all the characters unlikable and the book full of stereotypes and he was explaining some concepts like I was “duh!”. I truly did struggle but I finally finished the book. This was the first in a 7 book series, I will not be reading the rest. Hope your book gets better.

Geez, it must be the week for crappy reading. I’m reading one now that I’m half way through and I could care less if they all get wiped out. It’s supposed to be a romance but for the life of me I can’t see the romance. These characters are flat as a board. I see lots of hormones in over drive, but nothing to make me care about the characters or even if there’s a HEA. I would pitch it but I kinda feel like since I’ve already invested this much time, I might as well see it through to the bitter end…

Congrats on getting through revisions! I REALLY cannot wait until My Immortal Assassin and My Dangerous Pleasure! Have fun in NYC. Don’t work too hard 🙂

My book is actually getting worse. Everyone gets called by multiple names (last name, rank, rank plus last name, first name, nickname) omg. I can’t remember who any one is! If it weren’t for the cliche behavior of certain characters I’d be totally lost. The cardboard characters are growing in number and two of them are male. At this point, I’m Rubber necking. How bad can it get?

Natascha: Thanks so much! And just WAIT until you see the cover for My Dangerous Pleasure…
