To celebrate the release of Surrender to Ruin and because I’m in the giving mood, I am giving away two necklaces, one here, and one on my Facebook Author page. Here are pictures of the one I’m giving away here. I don’t have the right lighting, but I did the best I could. Both necklaces are Swarovski crystal. I bought them from a woman who had to move her jewelry business to her husband’s frame shop here in my town because they lost their house in the Northern California fires. They are both commuting from San Francisco. So these necklaces have some history already.

When I got home from work today, complaining of a sore shoulder, my daughter started massaging it for me. She’s a sweet critter. 🙂

Have been sick all week with some kind of awful crud, and my hubby has patiently tried to take care of me, bringing home many take out meals. He has not complained about the horrible mess the house is, or commented about how far behind I am in Christmas preparation.

My brother and his son came to visit for about a week and spent two days cleaning up fallen leaves and other debris in my yard–one of those “I’ll get to it … sometime” tasks I had put off–in between helping to take care of our parents. And my brother dug trenches in hard clay soil for me to plant new bulbs in the garden! My champions!
Just this week a good buddy surprised me with two of my not inexpensive prescriptions, paleo treats from a bake shop, and new plaid flannel pj’s with coordinating reading glasses. One part medical support, one part humor, two parts sheer kindness. His thoughtfulness made a cold aching week less isolating, brought back the gratitude for my friends and situation. Hard to be grumpy in purple & fuchsia plaid pj’s, purple readers, with a new book, tray of treat & tea, and cat in lap.
