Quick My Immortals Update

My Immortals Update!

I have uploaded the files for My Wicked Enemy and My Forbidden Desire, and I am waiting for the various vendors to get the books on sale. Amazon has my reversion letters but how soon they’ll realize that and put the books on sale is anyone’s guess. Once all the vendors have published the books, I can post the various buy-links.

Pricing

For 30 days both books will be $0.99 US and whatever the closest currency conversion + VAT is in other countries. My Wicked Enemy will probably stay at that price, but the price of My Forbidden Desire will go up. If you bought these books from the original publisher, there’s no simple way to get the updated versions without buying the books again, hence the low price. However, I will likely set up a way for people who already bought these books way back when to get the new versions. Stay tuned for that.

Wishing Everyone a Delightful and Happy Gregorian New Year

Sunday, January 1st, 2023

A very Happy New Year to all who observe the Gregorian calendar.

On New Year’s Eve here at Jewel HQ, yours truly went to bed at 6:30PM and snuggled up with the dogs and cats while I horrified myself watching episodes of Hoarders and reading the news. The neighbors were shooting off guns and fireworks starting at 8:00PM. I was too tired to stay up until midnight. I get up at 5:00AM and midnight is just waaaayyy past my bedtime. I had some time off while my son was here and I was staying up later than my usual to hang out with him so my sleep schedule got a little out of whack.

Caught in the Southwest Disaster

My son ended up being here extra days because his return flight to Seattle was on Southwest and got cancelled. He wisely came and got me up as soon as he got the cancellation text and I was able to book him a flight out of the local airport on Friday. The local airport is a 30 minute drive from us (instead of an hour plus to Oakland) but it doesn’t accommodate jets, only commuter style prop planes. Most of the flights were REALLY expensive, but there was one that didn’t make me want to cry. He had to call work and let them know he was stuck here for additional days, but he was back in Seattle on Friday. To be honest, I think it’s possible that considering the cost and time of getting to Oakland Airport (which I prefer over SFO) the higher flight cost of the local airport can come close to a wash. You also don’t have to factor in the possibility of TSA line delays. I think in future, I will be more carefully considering flights out of there.

2022: A Review

tl:dr: could have been way worse. Wasn’t great.

2023: Predictions?

None. I just hope it’s better than 2022. Okay, I have one prediction. I will put out the revised versions of the first two My Immortals books before the end of February. I say that because if my publisher continues to stonewall me, I won’t have the last reversion until end of January and I need time to get ducks in a row so Amazon doesn’t give me grief. Sending them the reversion in advance has helped with other books. I also expect to complete Bound in Smoke and have it out this year. Once again, I am re-covering Scandal. Amazon gives me grief over the cover I love and the current cover just doesn’t work as well as I’d hoped. Stay tuned for that cover reveal.

In the meantime, have a wonderful New Year.

My Immortals Update

Saturday, October 29th, 2022

I have completed the revisions, cleaning up for My Wicked Enemy and My Forbidden Desire. I’ve sent the relevant files off to be formatted so that now off my plate!

Now it’s back to work on Bound in Smoke, which went a bit on the back burner while I finished up these two projects.

I hope everyone is doing well.

My Demon Warlord – Updated Blurb

Saturday, December 19th, 2015

I’ve tweaked the back cover copy for My Demon Warlord. What do you think?

Version 2.1

A Demon Warlord Bound by Dark Magic to the Powerful Witch he’s Desired For Years.

Kynan Aijan’s centuries-long enslavement to a mage left him borderline insane and bound to Maddy Winters, a witch he intended to kill in horrible ways. Though he’s sworn the bonds they share will never be completed, their very existence feeds his desire for her even as he accepts that Winters will never forgive him.

For Maddy Winters the fight against evil magic users always takes top priority. But her bonds to Kynan give her intimate access to his thoughts and experiences, and  she can’t always ignore their chemistry. Her insistence that she has no feelings for him is a deception she can’t afford to give up.

As Kynan and Maddy join forces to stop a rebellious and murderous witch, the dark magic that binds them locks them into forbidden passions and magic that could destroy them both . Will their fight for what’s right lead to a fight for each other?

My Demon Warlord is the seventh installment in the My Immortals series of paranormal romance novels. If you like magical supernatural tales, explosive chemistry, and irresistible passion, then you’ll love Carolyn Jewel’s latest breathtaking romance.

My Demon Warlord – Back Cover Copy

Sunday, November 29th, 2015

So …. what do you think of this?

An extremely powerful demon. A no-strings-attached witch. Is their business really just pleasure?

Kynan Aijan’s centuries-long enslavement to a mage left him borderline insane, and he holds all witches responsible. His encounter with Maddy Winters is supposed to end with him killing her in horrible ways but instead ends with magical bonds he must swear will never be completed. As he regains his sanity, he accepts that Winters will never forgive him.

No ordinary witch, Maddy Winters isn’t big on relationships. The fight against evil magic users always takes top priority. But her bonds to Kynan give her intimate access to his thoughts and experiences, and soon her instance that she has no feelings for him becomes a deception she can’t afford to give up.

As Kynan and Maddy join forces to stop a rebellious and murderous witch, they can’t help but feel the pull of the dark magic that binds them. Will their fight for what’s right lead to a fight for each other?

My Demon Warlord is the seventh installment in the My Immortals saga, a series of paranormal romance novels. If you like magical supernatural tales, explosive chemistry, and sensual sexual encounters, then you’ll love Carolyn Jewel’s latest breathtaking romance.

News! Actual News!

Thursday, May 15th, 2014

I finished my novella for the upcoming paranormal romance anthology Alphas Unleashed and thus, the fork is out!

Fork against a blue sky with white clouds

The Fork

Just in time, too, because edits are back for A Notorious Ruin!

Folks, if you read my last post, you know that I started this novella, Dead Drop, on April 15. Today is May 15, and it is not only done, it’s pretty damned good.

About Dead Drop

Read Chapter 1

Here’s a teaser:

Palla was halfway in the kitchen, and that made her nervous, that he was bothering to come this close. She wasn’t sure about Tau’s job, but Palla was an enforcer. Literally. He worked for a demon warlord, and it was his job to scare people into staying in bounds and to take care of the ones who didn’t. Just about all of the demon warlord’s inner circle were killers. They had to be these days, but yeah. She was a bit too aware of that right now. You broke the rules, you paid the price, and there stood the guy who took all your money.

What else? Dead Drop will appear first in the anthology. It will be available individually sometime in October.

Free Fall is FREE at most Vendors

Saturday, May 4th, 2013

Woot!

Amazon has price matched my novella, Free Fall, to FREE.

Amazon

Kobo

iTunes

I couldn’t get it free at B&N, though I did lower the price to $.99. If you have a Nook and would like a free copy, let me know and I’ll get you one.

Attorney Lys Fensic has spent her life controlling a psychic power that kills. Her ability to lock herself down falls apart when her ex, a mage, sends enslaved demons to kill her. In a psychic free fall, she turns to tough guy Telos Khunbish for help. But is he a mage as she’s always suspected or is he something far more dangerous?

Free Fall is set in the My Immortals series world where demons and magic-using humans called the magekind are not quite getting along. Most people have no idea they’re living in what amounts to a magical war-zone. Free Fall is based on the short story Future Tense but is considerably expanded and includes scenes that were censored from the short story. This novella is about 35,000 words (130 pages).

Excerpt

11:40 AM. Lobby of 101 California Street, San Francisco, California

He was here. Telos Kh?nbish had come. Relief nearly demolished her, it hit so powerfully. He was here, and now, improbably, she believed everything was going to be all right. Her life was irrevocably screwed, but she believed. She ignored the noise of the lobby and the man standing beside her. He was irrelevant. What a damn sad commentary it was that after nearly ten years in the city, Kh?nbish was the closest thing she had to a friend. Maybe even a real friend, because he was here, and she believed she’d get through this.

Her heart kicked up a notch when she got a clear view of his black BMW turning onto Front Street. Now, of course, she wondered if she’d made a mistake involving him. She didn’t make a habit of asking for help. She wasn’t good with people. She wasn’t even sure she’d asked right. Seems she had.

The BMW was definitely looking to park. Good thing. In less than ten minutes the lunchtime rush would start, and she’d be in real trouble. Even now, there were too many people around.

“My ride’s here,” she said to Jack, the man standing beside her. She didn’t make eye contact because that would be dangerous. Instead she stared at his tie, but that turned out to be a mistake. The dark red silk looked like blood streaming down his chest. She focused on the shiny marble floor and the tips of his Oxfords. “I’m fine. Really.”

“Let me carry your things.” Jack reached for the moving box that contained the personal contents from her office. He knew Michael, and that meant she couldn’t trust him. Simple fact. She couldn’t trust anyone who knew Michael Ford.

“No.” She gripped the box tighter and looked at the street again, as if Kh?nbish could help her from afar. The BMW was waiting for a van to pull away from the curb. Kh?nbish had never met Michael. That was part of the reason she’d called him. That, and she didn’t know anyone else.

“Lys.” Jack was thirty-ish, good looking, and in line to make partner in the next two years. He did good suit. He was a competent lawyer and a decent litigator.

She faked a smile and looked at Jack without directly meeting his eyes. Over the years, she’d gotten good at faking contact normal people never thought twice about. She lifted the box an inch. “Hardly weighs a thing.”

Jack smoothed a hand down the river of blood that was his tie. She held her breath, half expecting his palm to come away smeared red. He reached for her moving box, and she jumped back, heart slamming against her chest. Either Jack didn’t get it, or he was in league with Michael and meant her harm. He kept moving toward her.

“Don’t.” The word came out sharp and loud. The security guard at the lobby reception area looked over. She was close to losing it. Way too close. Blocking shouldn’t be this hard for her, but the last several days had been. . .difficult. Not enough sleep. Not enough to eat. Too much caffeine. Far too much stress.

“Lys. Come on.” His tie vibrated at the edges of her vision. Blood red. A river of red. He reached for the box again. “I’m only trying to help out.”

She risked a look at his face. His smile was hesitant, a little irritated, but that would be normal if he really just wanted to help.  Just a regular person trying to be nice. Part of her didn’t believe it. He knew Michael, and Michael had tried to kill her. “Don’t touch me.”

Reviews

The Romanceaholic

4.5 stars
The dynamic between Lys’ very staid, tightly controlled character and Telos’ much more laid back and even aggressive personality was wonderful, and the chemistry between the two was absolutely sizzling.

Overall, I couldn’t put it down. With plenty of action, steam, and powerful romance, this is a wonderful introduction to the series, and a great story in its own right.

Progress Report and Craziness

Saturday, December 22nd, 2012

Life has been busy lately, to say the least. In the writing realm, I can say that My Darkest Passion (My Immortals 5 – Harsh’s book) is still coming along.

I just completed a vast reorganization of the chapters. I haven’t settled yet on the way I will structure the story. I started out purely chronological then switched to some flashback scenes and now I’m back to chronological. The second method had some extremely effective benefits, but for the moment, I am going to work on this thing from point A to point B and then decide if that’s the best way to structure the final version.

Two red pens have been sacrificed during my last set of paper read throughs. TWO! I am on my third. The good news is this means things are way better. It means I am deepening emotions and characters and honing in on what makes them and their story tick.

I am close. Very close to sending it to my editor. But not yet.

This also means you can expect to see a completely different current chapter 1 posting soon.

Happy Turkey Day!

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

I was going to post a picture of the turkey we used to have, but I organized all my pictures and now I can’t find anything. Instead, I will wish everyone celebrating Thanksgiving a very happy day and show you this picture:

Close up of a white pansy with raindrops

One of these days I will save up enough money for a telephoto lens and/or a more general purpose lens than my macro lens.

I am making slow but steady progress with My Immortals 5 (Harsh’s story). I’m at the point now where it just seems like I’m working through mess after mess, but I can see where the story is very much coming together.

Update Palooza

Monday, March 19th, 2012

March 20th is the last day to enter the Goodreads drawing for a copy of Not Wicked Enough. You can enter from my blog.

Mostly I’m head-down nose to the keyboard. I’m doing one more revision of the Future Tense novella. Then I finish the historical anthology. Then I start book 5 of the My Immortals series. And somewhere in there I put out the UK etc eBook of Not Wicked Enough. It’s a lot of work.

And now, back to work. If you know a good joke, or even a bad one, share in the comments.
