November! Update.

Sunday, November 9th, 2014

OK, so I am failing miserably at NaNoWriMo again. I’m busy pulling together an excuse. I’ll let you know when I have one. Feel free to provide an excuse in the comments.

I have finished turning Dead Drop into a novel. I’ve given it Book 6 in the My Immortals book order, by the way. It’s 42,000+ words and will be on sale December 17, 2014. Pre-order links are going live now. Also, it seems I have not yet shown you guys the cover. Here it is!

A hot, sexy, shirtless demon against a blue background. He's awesome. Dead Drop by Carolyn Jewel

Cover of Dead Drop

The print version is ready to go. I’ll just need to pull the on-sale trigger. Here’s the pre-orders I have so far:

Amazon
iBooks
Kobo
Google Play
Nook

Just a reminder that I set up a newsletter-subscriber only section of my website. I’m currently serializing Dead Drop there. We’re up to chapter 8!

My last newsletter included everything you need to know to login to the subscriber only section. If you believe you’re a subscriber and didn’t get the email, then check your spam. I know Yahoo mail and Gmail both do a good job of reducing spam and “Promotion” but that also means that my newsletter is likely getting caught up in that. You may need to check those folders and whitelist me. If you don’t have the information, email me and I’ll get you the details.

Other News

I will be on vacation beginning Wednesday. ::me dancing:: Thursday I leave for New York and my first RWA Board Meeting. I’ll have all the following week off and hope to make major progress on My Immortals Book 7, which is Kynan’s and Maddy’s book.

NaNoWriMo Fail – Commiserate Here

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

I signed up for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) this November DETERMINED to win at last. You win, by the way, by writing 50K words in a month. Hard work but doable and a great exercise for seeing what happens when you put your butt in the chair and write every day to a word count. It’s not for everyone, but hey! Awesome. It runs from November 1 to November 30.

I failed miserably. I think my total word count was just shy of 6,000 words. Why? Oh, I have excuses! Lots of them!

On November 1 I was still finishing up revisions for My Dangerous Please. In fact, on November 2, I wrote 1900 words of revision!

I sent in the revisions on the 3rd I think and started back on The Next Historical which is the project I was going to NanNo. On the 3rd I got a revision letter for the super secret short project and that required my attention, so I did that and added another 2,000 or so words to that and sent those back.

On Nov 5 my son and I went to New York for a week but I did some writing on the Next Historical but more on the My Immortals short because, that absolutely had to be done before My Immortal Assassin comes out. I got that done. I did get some words in on the NaNo project.

Then I came back from NY and I tucked into the NaNo project only my editor sent me some revisions for the short (they didn’t take long, at all, actually, but still….)

I had this vague hope that over the next week plus Thanksgiving I could get close . . . if I really rocked it only I ended up deleting 5,000 words of the Nano project — it HAD TO BE DONE — and rewriting them.

Then came Thanksgiving and there was still this kind of puny hope, but I got sick. Fever sick where you’re in bed shaking because you’re freezing even though the dog and two cats love how hot you are and are snuggled up close.

So yeah. NaNo Fail for me.

Tell me your NaNoWriMo fail story. Heap on the tales of fail. Don’t hold back.

I will send a commenter something cool which I don’t know what it is yet. Maybe a plush Bucky the Deer toy if I can find one.

Comment by midnight Pacific, December, uh, 6th. Void where prohibited. International is fine. Unless there’s some law that it’s not.

Next year, I swear.

Books I’ve read or Am Reading Now

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I LOVED the Ryan books. I keep wishing there were more to pick up because the Voice is so wonderfully conversational. And every book had 2-3 lines that just impressed the hell out of me.

The Monroe book was my very first Harlequin Blaze that I didn’t get free. It was cute and fun and I’ll be looking for more of her work plus reading more from Harlequin, too.

In Progress

These three books rock. The last one is interesting but I do think she missed the point of Bronte’s Vilette. I have a way to go, but it’s actually in line with some interesting and hyperbolic conversation that’s been going around on the Interwebz lately. I’ll be posting on that in a day or two I think.

Off to post chapter 1 of The Last Paranormal which I have tentatively titled My Beloved Assassin. I have started work on The Next Paranormal and am wondering if there is any hope of catching up in NaNoWriMo.

The cookie diet tip, NaNoWriMo, flowers and other stuff about writing

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

As you may know, I’m doing NaNoWriMo and so far I am -21,000 words or so. Yeah. That’s negative words. Cough Cough. That would be for The Next Historical.

The good news is it’s never all bad news when you cut crap from your novel. Plus last night I was able to get myself above 60,000 again. I think I need to add one more chapter, but I have to spend some time thinking about exactly what needs to happen in it. In the meantime I’m reading through and editing as I go. I’m feeling a lot better now that I’ve removed all of the chapters that needed to go stay in the Trash Files, an all expenses paid vacation for Words That Are Not Right. Or maybe it’s a Rest Home. Yeah, more like that. Or maybe it’s more like an orphanage. Without the big pathetic please take me home with you eyes. They try, sure, the pathetic whiners. But it’s important not to listen.

What else? Today was the last league game for the son’s soccer season. They won league with a 2-2 tie. I wrote in the car before the game started, which is always good for lack of distraction. It was an awesome game, too. Both teams played good soccer. From now until January they practice for the big state-wide tournament. This means I have my weekends back.

Today I ate mostly cookies. I said I’d bring cookies to the End Of Season soccer party so I made the dough last night and cooked the cookies when we got home from the game. I’m afraid I did too much taste testing, though I can at least report that each and every one of the cookies I ate were excellent. I couldn’t eat anything at the party because I was too full from the cookies. Which is a great diet tip only I think you’re supposed to fill up on carrots and celery, not cookies. Whatever. It worked, didn’t it?

Here’s a random picture I took yesterday:

OK, off to write a few more words then I’m going to bed.

What Does Whiskers Think of The New Kitty?

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

I uploaded my first video to YouTube today. It’s only 30 seconds and it’s kind of lame but you’ll find out what The Black Cat, aka, Nightmare, aka Insane Cat thinks of my son’s kitten, Tiger.

In writing news, I have have been writing The Next Historical. Trying to write more than I delete. So, like if I write 2000 words today, I can delete 2000 words of crap. Works for me!

Also, at a gathering, my hero just discovered something kind of upsetting about the heroine. Ooooh.

By my friend on NaNoWriMo My user name is cjewel. Won’t you be my buddy?
